The Randy Roberts Foundation Civic Scholars program aims to educate and engage high school students in civics and foster an interest in public service.

Each fall, Polk County high school juniors are invited to apply for the Randy Roberts Foundation's transformative Civic Scholars program. This unique opportunity empowers students to explore the world of civics and public service through a dynamic, multi-tiered journey.

Selected students begin their Civic Scholars journey in the Community Classroom, held annually each fall in Lakeland, Florida. Here, students explore the foundations of civic engagement and hone their leadership skills. They engage in dynamic discussions, participate in hands-on activities, and learn from experienced professionals.

Students participate in a series of interviews as a part of their Community Classroom experience. Those selected to participate in the next leg of the Civic Scholars program are invited to the Capitol Classroom. This exciting opportunity takes them to Tallahassee, the heart of Florida's government, where they gain firsthand insight into the legislative process. They meet with influential leaders, elected officials, and business professionals who are shaping the future of Florida, learning how policies are crafted and implemented.

Finally, in the fall of their senior year, a select group from this cohort is chosen for the prestigious Congressional Classroom. These students travel to Washington D.C., the nation's capital, to experience the power of civic engagement on a national scale. They engage with national leaders, policymakers, and changemakers who share inspiring insights and personal stories about the impact of civic involvement.

The Randy Roberts Foundation Civic Scholars program is designed to ignite a passion for civics in students who may not have previously considered a path in government. Through this transformative experience, they gain a deep understanding of the value of civic participation, change-making, and relationship-building, empowering them to become the next generation of leaders.

Since 2011, when the Randy Roberts Foundation assumed the direction of the program, trips have included up to 17 students and 4 chaperones. Over the years, this program has been provided to more than 100 students. All expenses are paid for through the Randy Roberts Foundation and their generous donors.
